At the age of 15, a visit to a Latinpercussion shop had a real impact on her; it was the beginning of her life as a musician. She then took private lessons with Martin Bonin and participated in his band activities (Zuruba\u2019s batucada). During the following five years, she studied Latin and African percussions with Marc, Michel Junior and Michel S\u00e9guin, Hans Longpr\u00e9 and Robert Dethier. She then decided to complete her studies in \u201cTechnique of JazzArrangement and Latin Percussion Interpretation\u201d at CEGEP St-Laurent. Her teachers were there Jean-Guy Plante (classical percussions), Philippe Keyser (drums), Luc Boivin and Andr\u00e9 Martin (Latin percussions). Having graduated, she pursued her studies at UQAM\u2028 in classical percussions and in drums with Jean-Guy Plante and Pierre H\u00e9bert, studies she finished in May 2013.<\/p>\n<p>She also multiplies studying trips where she could really concentrate on the various styles related to percussions and study with the best interpreters. M\u00e9lissa has indeed studied Cuban percussions with Klimax in Cayo Coco (Kosa Cuba), in Havana withAfro Cuban All Stars and Rumbero de Cuba, and in San Francisco with Jesus Diazand Michael Spiro; African percussions in Guinea with the Ballets Djoliba (Ousmane Sila), Balandougoukan(S\u00e9kou Ke\u00efta) and Amazones (Aly Sila) as well as flamenco in Seville with, among others, Pilar Ortega (Juan Polvillo School) and Carmen Ledesma (Academia Arte Flamenco of Sevilla), in addition to the intensive Kosa drum and percussion program she participated to in Vermont (Greg Bissonnette, Memo Acevedo, Michael Wimberly, Carmine Apice). She also studied framedrumming in New York with the great Glen Velez in the spring of 2011 and went to Bali in May and June 2013 to study gamelan music. In the end, she just never stops studying&#8230; !<\/p>\n<p>Besides her music studies, M\u00e9lissa Lavergne was also a dance student. Aftergraduating from Pierre-Laporte Secondary School with a major in classical ballet, she continued dancing as a member of the Sortil\u00e8ges, a national folk dance group, danced inthe Nutcracker of Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montr\u00e9al and in several professional events and shows (Star Acad\u00e9mie, Line 1, the Movie Song Show, L\u2019Oreal). She stopped dancing professionally, but dance remains one of her greatest passions.<\/p>\n<h2>Professional Activities<\/h2>\n<p>M\u00e9lissa Lavergne has performed in several shows and events in addition to accompanying many artists for the last 15 years (Coke, Beat, Insolita, J\u2019tam, Zuruba, Le Refuge, Kevin Parent, C\u00e9l\u00e9bration, Star Acad\u00e9mie, Y\u00e9 trop d\u2019bonne heure, Ima, MauvaisSort, Aikya, Ang\u00e9lique Kidjo, Roch Voisine, Murray Head, Line 1, la F\u00eate Nationale, le Grand Rire, Juste pour rire). One can see her perform every week on the the TV \u2028show Belle &amp; Bum as she is the percussionnist of the houseband. She also joined Lara Fabian\u2019s Le Secret Tour in October 2013 as a percussionnist and chorist.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to her on-stage performances, M\u00e9lissa teaches too. Afrique en mouvements,Samajam, Haute-Gamme, Centre artistique Le Gardeur, the Centres Jeunesse de Montr\u00e9aland Jam Experience are some of the establishments where she gave percussion lessons in the last ten years. She also formed a group of advanced students (B\u00e9l\u00e9b\u00e9l\u00e9) with whom sheplayed all over the province of Quebec as well as in Senegal with the great griot Zale Seck, a well-known senegalese singer with whow she organised a studying trip with all her advenced students of B\u00e9l\u00e9b\u00e9l\u00e9 in May 2012.<\/p>\n<p>Acting as the spokesperson for La Grande Guignol\u00e9e des M\u00e9dias (2008), Pacifest (2008-09) and La Colonie Sainte-Jeanne-d\u2019Arc, she is also involved in the Centres Jeunesse de Montr\u00e9al Foundation, where she helps give free access to art (music,dance, theatre) to youngsters. She has been selected as the multidisciplinary artist who represented the province at La Maison du Qu\u00e9bec in Vancouver within the context of the 2010 Olympic Games, where she presented the Around M\u00e9lissa Lavergne show, inspired by her various study trips. She presented this same show at the 2010 edition of the International Percussion Festival of Longueuil for which she was also the spokesperson for 5 years.She\u2019s now the ambassador for les Zones Musicales de Laval and the co-host of Belle et Bum, the musical tv show she\u2019s working on since now 15 years.<\/p>\n<h2>Projects<\/h2>\n<p>Besides her contracts as accompanying percussionist, M\u00e9lissa also has some personalprojects which are dear to her heart: Lady Beats (with dj Abeille G\u00e9lnias and Marie-Jos\u00e9e Frigon), Melissa Lavergne\u2019s House Parts, Melissa Lavergne and Belle et Bum\u2019s Musicians and Melissa Lavergne sur demande where she makes out an exclusive concept for your event regarding your specific needs.
